BYU Men’s Soccer hit the road for the first three games of the season

Cougars look to “focus forward” for Saturday’s home opener

The BYU Men’s Soccer team traveled to the California and the Las Vegas last week to kick of this year’s PDL season. Head coach Brandon Gilliam said of last week’s trip, "Three road games in five days to kick off your season is about as hard a start as you can get and the players performed outstanding.”

BYU FALLS TO DENVER

Denver, Co- BYU Men’s Soccer was defeated by the Denver Pioneers 2-1 on Apr. 9 on the road in a back and forth battle in Denver, Colorado.

Denver was first to put points on the board as they knocked one in near the post from 30 yards out to take the lead 0-1 with eight minutes left in the first half.

With four minutes remaining in the first half, Connor Fordham of the Cougars crossed the ball, leading Taylor Fankhauser to flick it on, with Pedro Vasconcelos making the finish. The score leading into the second half was tied at 1-1.

PROVO, Utah (Mar. 12,2016)— BYU Men’s Soccer team defeated the United Soccer League Real Monarchs 2-1 in their second scrimmage of the season on Friday, Mar. 11 at the America First Field in Sandy.

The team’s first match took place in February where they had a closed door friendly in Provo Utah. It was the first time during the new season the Cougars had the opportunity to play on a full size field, and the Monarchs took the victory.

PROVO, UTAH (Feb. 26, 2016)- BYU Men’s Soccer has committed three high school recruits to play for their team upon commencement of their high school and church obligations.

Seniors Sam Krommenhoek of Maple Mountain high school and club team Storm, Adam Canfield from Lone Peak high school and club team Sparta, as well as Ben Fankhauser from Cottonwood Heights and also club team Sparta, have agreed to join the Cougars for their collegiate soccer career.
